What kind of food can I donate? (¿Qué tipo de comida puedo donar?)
We are currently receiving a lot of expired donations. By law, we are unable to distribute expired food. Please check all expiration dates before donating.
To ensure the safety and health of the people we are serving we require that all food items be unopened, and still within manufacturer’s recommended “sell by” date. For donations of perishable, fresh or frozen foods please email us in order to schedule a drop-off. While there are needs for a variety of food items, the following are always in demand:
- Canned Fruit & Vegetables
- Canned Meat & Tuna
- Applesauce
- Ketchup
- Rice
- Flour
- Sugar
- Vegetable Oil
- Peanut Butter & Jelly
- Mayonnaise
- Hot & Cold Cereal
- Supermarket Gift Cards

When and Where can I donate food & other items? (¿Cuándo y dónde puedo donar alimentos y otros artículos?)
The Helping Hand Food Pantry has an outdoor covered receptacle at the south entrance of 349 Hillsdale Avenue, Hillsdale NJ 07642 where NON-PERISHABLE food products can be donated 24 hours a day and seven days a week. The receptacle is checked and emptied daily. Please send any checks or supermarket gift cards to Helping Hand Food Pantry P.O. Box 354, Hillsdale, NJ 07642.
All Food Drive deliveries must be scheduled with the Food Drive Coordinator for an appropriate day and time. Contact the Food Drive Coordinator using the FOOD DRIVES tab on this page.

What are the Hours of Operation for the Helping Hand Food Pantry?
The Helping Hand Food Pantry is open on Mondays from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. We are also open the first Saturday of the month from 9:00 to 10:30 am. These hours are for clients only and food donations must be scheduled and delivered at another time.

What should I do if I want to volunteer?
The Helping Hand Food Pantry relies entirely on private donations, fundraisers, food drives, and grants to serve those in need. If you would like to volunteer, please fill out and submit the volunteer form under the volunteer tab and someone will contact you to schedule you on the calendar. Unregistered and unscheduled volunteers that come to the pantry will be unable to volunteer. Our normal business hours are Monday evenings from 5:30PM to 7PM and the first Saturday of every month from 9AM to 10:30AM. Please refer to our calendar under the Home tab for pantry closings. If you would like to arrange a food drive please see the “What should I do if I want to arrange a food drive?” section on our “FAQ” page.

What are the eligibility requirements to be served by the pantry? (¿Cuáles son los requisitos de elegibilidad para ser atendidos por la despensa?)
The Helping Hand Food Pantry requires all clients to confirm residency in order to be served. At your next visit, please provide two (2) of the following documents showing your name and address. All documents must have a recent date. Any document older than one (1) year will not be accepted. Reconfirmation of residency will be required on an annual basis. Failure to do so will forfeit your ability to be served. The following forms of identification are acceptable:
Home Telephone Bill (No Cell Phone Bills)
Mortgage Statement
Utility Bill
Dated Lease Agreement
Rent Receipt
Bank Statement
Photo ID/Driver’s License
Once you are certified, you will be required to bring a valid form of ID showing your name each time to arrive for services. The ID will be checked upon signing in. Anyone who fails to submit proper ID at the onset of each visit will be turned away.

La despensa de alimentos para la mano ayuda requiere que todos los clientes confirmen la residencia para ser atendidos. En su próxima visita, proporcione dos (2) de los siguientes documentos que muestren su nombre y dirección. Todos los documentos deben tener una fecha reciente. No se aceptará ningún documento de más de un (1) año. La confirmación de la residencia será necesaria anualmente. Si no lo hace, perderá su capacidad de ser servido.
